I’m a purlin’ mama

Offline, unfortunately… June 12, 2007

Filed under: Sockapalooza, Socks — mamaofpurl @ 12:22 pm

We’ve moved - for the first time in 9 years, I don’t have cars in front of my windows, and I have a kitchen with an actual table in it. It’ s wonderful! we still haven’t painted every room, but as of last week, we do have a functioning bathroom with a tub and no more lead plumbing. And my memory of the old place is already fading!

The only major problem is the phone line, like, I don’t have one yet. And it looks like I’m going to be offline for another two weeks. No blog-reading, no extended reading of the summer knitty issue, and I’m too busy unpacking and painting to write e-mails (sorry, sockpal!)

I’m only half way through the foot of my first sockapalooza sock, but I know that things are going to settle in soon, and I’m ready to get a lot of knitting done. And I’m longing for some more spinning!

My sockpal is getting a pair of burgundy Baudelaire socks in Regia Silk, if I haven’t told you already…

Hope to post some pix soon…

Mama’s First Handwarmers May 14, 2007

It’s so hard finding time to post and mess around with the blog right now - after a super busy period at work, I’m now in the midsts of planning moving to a new apartment. Bigger, brighter, much more beautiful. I’m absolutely psyched and dream about wall colors :-)

Nevertheless, I’ve finally managed to bind off the last stitches of my most favoured project about two weeks ago. I’m so proud! It’s based on Nancy Bush’s Child’s First Sock pattern from “Knitting Vintage Socks” and I’ve been heavily inspired by Craftoholic’s Mermaid Gloves.

I was contemplating ripping out the fingers because they turned out to be too short on the first handwarmer, but then I decided to keep them since they allow the pattern to stretch beautifully over the hand itself and really show those wonderful…uh… scales? Shells?

The yarn is from an online store’s sale last fall, a brand (SPORTIVO) that I didn’t know yet, but that colorway and the incredible price (3,99€) was so appealing! It’s a regular 75% wool, 25% polyester blend, super soft and a pleasure to knit with. I still have a lot left of that ball, and my daughter already requested a mini pair for herself :-)

I’m back! May 2, 2007

Hey there, I’ve moved!

After having completely neglected my mamaofpurl.blogspirit.com blog, I would’ve had to pay the fees for over half a year just to reactivate it…

Well, I’ve been very busy working - so far, it’s been an incredible experience and I’m so grateful that I’ve found such a gratifying and fun job. I honestly never expected to actually find something as suitable for me.

Knittingwise, I’ve been happily meeting up with my fellow stitchin’ bitches every other weekend, and it’s great to have these enthusiastic chicks around to share new ideas and yarn porn with, or just hang out and sip coffee while trying to manage following a lace pattern and talking simultaneously.

sockapalooza4_button.jpgI’m absolutely psyched to get my sockapalooza 4 pal’s details, I can’t wait to pick out some yarn and a pattern. Mentioning patterns, the coolest sock pattern I’ve seen recently (well, after Cookie opened her store) definitely is the new AntiCraft pattern Vinnland. WOW! I even still have some Opal solid color yarn in my stash that would be perfect!

Alright, I’m going to try to work on this new blog to include all the recent finished items and maybe I can build up the courage to count and photograph my WIPs. Uh-oh!
